Tooth decay

VISIT OUR NORMAL WEBSITE - Manly Dentist

Tooth decay occurs when the bacteria in your mouth metabolises the sugar in your diet and produces acid. The acid softens your teeth and over time forces on the softened tooth structure causes a collapse, which results in a cavity. Cavities generally need to be treated by placing a filling. We clean out the bacteria in the cavity and fill the cavity with a material which restores the shape of the tooth and prevents more bacteria from entering the cavity. At Manly Smiles, almost all of the fillings we do will be white fillings. We rarely use amalgam, however amalgam is a safe material. This fact has been proven again and again by the world’s most reputed research institutions. However, not all tooth decay needs to be treated by fillings. If the tooth is softened but not yet decayed, we may be able reverse the decay using high concentration fluoride gels or tooth mousse.
